MEDICI Training and Development Programme

Training – Regional and Local
The Medici Training Programme has been designed to give the Medici fellows some broad knowledge surrounding technology transfer, IP proptection and business. This is then supplemented with more in-depth training courses that fellows organise themselves using their own training budget.

The training programme begins with a residential introductory event for all Fellows. This event allows the Fellows to network with each other and become familiar with some of the commercialisation issues they will be tackling, as they develop their own ideas. This 2 day residential event is just part of a training and development programme that continues throughout their Fellowship. Key elements of the residential course included sessions on:

  • commercial exploitation
  • intellectual property protection
  • communication skills
  • introduction to technology and commercial audit
  • case-studies on spin-outs and licensing

After the residential the Fellows receive intensive training, on subjects including business strategy, marketing, accountancy, finance, human resource management, entrepreneurship and innovation. This takes place at a local level and is provided by a number of the partner universities. The remainder of the training is provided at a regional level. All the Fellows attend joint regional workshops and events on licensing, strategy, writing business plans and finance.
