Celentyx announces
collaboration with Schering-Plough
Celentyx was officially launched as a spin-out of the Univeristy of Birmingham in March 2007 as an R&D-based company with a focus on human immune disease. Celentyx technology and expertise originated from the laboratories of Dr Nicholas Barnes and Prof John Gordon. Amongst the first in the world to recognise that many neurotransmitters also modify the immune system, Dr Barnes and Prof Gordon are internationally recognised authorities in this relatively new field of Neuroimmunopharmacology. Celentyx’s unique Immuno-Profiling™ platform technology allows rapid analysis of drug action on human immune cells in vitro. This series of intelligent screening methodologies allows to predict efficacy of candidate drugs, as well as the therapeutic or pathological side-effects of their administration, and can identify the precise immune cells involved. Immuno-Profiling™ utilises only human cells for tests in vitro, and generates efficacy and safety information in a manner that is more efficient, more cost-effective and more clinically predictive than traditional pre-clinical approaches. On the 3rd of January 2008 Celentyx has announced that Schering Plough has signed an agreement to utilise Immuno-Profiling™to support their R&D of novel drug targets. Dr Nicolas Barnes, CEO of Celentyx has commented: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Schering Plough. this further confirms the utility of our unique Immuno-Profiling™ technology". Dr
Marianthi Papakosta of Schering-Plough said "This exciting collaboration
between Schering-Plough and Celentyx Ltd allows us access to Immuno-Profiling™;
a range of powerful, intelligent, proprietary platform screening
methodologies using human immune cells. Of particular importance to
Schering-Plough is that we will gain access to, and learn from the
experience and valuable advice of recognised international experts of
human immune cell function. Finally, we anticipate this partnership with
Celentyx Ltd will place Schering-Plough at the forefront of the new and
developing field of Neuroimmunopharmacology."
