Who
is eligible to apply for a Medici fellowship?
Research
active staff, postgraduate, postdoctoral researchers and alumni from any
of the participating Universities are eligible to apply for a Medici fellowship.
Who should
apply?
Medici fellowships
are suitable for anyone who:
- is interested
in being a champion who will stimulate entrepreneurial activity within
the academic environment
- is keen
to bridging the gap between academia and commerce
- by gaining underpinning skills and knowledge
- by gaining hands on business development expertise
- has a
flair for and commitment to disseminating information and promoting
technologies
What are
the benefits?
- A one
year part-time or full-time fellowship.
- A bursary
up to a maximum of £25,000. The amount will be negotiated on
an individual basis and can be used to buy-out time for existing staff,
or to support a full-time Fellow with no other employment commitments.
- A taught
course in business and commercialisation issues and training
in the foundations of entrepreneurship. This will include
familiarisation with intellectual property and routes to commercialisation including spin-out company formation, licensing and provision of continuous professional development (CPD). Practically you will be taught to write a business plan and given an insight into accounting and legal matters.
- Dedicated
Business Development Managers will provide extensive mentoring
at all stages of the process throughout the year.
- Experiential
learning
to identify and develop a portfolio of commercial projects from the
Fellows' research group or sector.
- Enhanced
interaction with businesses, organisations and with
other universities within the consortium.
